Morandi has become a neighbourhood favourite for me and my friends because well…. we always have a good time.

Like having a family dinner with your Friends, Morandi feels like a big old Italian Grandmas house. Walls covered in wood and brick make it cosy any time of year. The Brunch is fantastic and since the restaurant is so big sometimes you can get seats last minute however on a weekend night good luck without serious lead time!

On a Rainy October Night, 6 of my friends went to Morandi and sat at a big table where we couldDrink Wine and Be Merry.

The food is good, reliable and so is the service. The food won’t rock your culinary world but it’s good enough to keep everyone happy, moderately priced and always guarantee a good time and good conversation.

Carciofi Alla Giudea fried artichokes with lemon My Best Friend Liubasha always gets the Fried artichoke (at any time of day) and its delicious, salty, SUPER oily and she loves it. I just remember the first time I had it and save the calories.. The delicious Insalata Di Barbabietole E Pistachio roasted beets, pistachio pesto, frisee, & smoked ricotta was very thin and fine, small for my standards but more refined than I expected.

Polipetti E Sedano grilled octopus with celery & black olives I had the Grilled Octupus which was delicious, soft, slightly crisp on the outside and paired with the fresh celery and salty olives. They love Oil at Morandi is something to note!

Tagliata Di Manzo Con Cipolline E Patate Arrosto grilled flank steak with balsamic onions & roasted potatoes The Grilled flank steak with balsamic onions & roasted potatoes was good for a trattoria and generous which most portions here are not. It definately hits the spot and for the price is a great dish but not outstanding in steak standards.

The Branzino E Pomodori Verdi roasted bass with green tomatoes, onions & oregano was simple and fresh, not very bold but what would be expected from a good italian kitchen.

Throughout the evening service is attentive, buzzing and you feel at home.

One hungry friend of mine ordered very lightly then at the end of the meal wanted a last minute “hit the spot” pasta which was asked to be rushed. He asked “how long will it take?” to the helpful waitress, she replied “15 minutes”, my friend replied “if you can make it faster that would be great” – it was out in less than 5 minutes. Now thats service for a hungry boy!

Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese egg pasta with classic meat sauce The Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese egg pasta with classic meat sauce was soft, warm, tasty and an elegant balance of tomato and meat flavours. At $19 was good for the quality and moderate portion size.

The meal with 3 bottles of wine cost about $75 per person and was a good neighbourhood spot to start the night before going clubbing at the Boom Boom Room.
