WARNING!! Some of you may be offended by this review.
Yes, those of you vegetarians and unadventurous diners may think the heavy, greasy, meaty menu at ANIMAL in Los Angeles is outrageous.
This restaurant has one of the best senses of humour and unapologetically specializing in hearty “hangover” food for carnivores. I thought it was a fantastic dining experience however not something you or your heart would be able to eat more than once a month. The restaurant is full of bearded hipsters, eating these nouveau foodie goodies at moderate prices.
The Agnolotti Special Pasta with Rabbit, Herbs and Parmesan was a stand out dish perfectly paired the soft, warm pasta, meaty flavours of rabbit in a buttery herb drizzle.
The BBQ Pork Belly Sandwich was so this minute I was excited to try it, but wondering whats going to be the next big thing since Pork Belly has hit the top 5 foodie dishes in the last 5 years.. This ensemble of masculine no-nonsense Burger was very good, VERY rich and heaven for any porki-vore. No way I could attempt more than a few bites.
The very fried version of Sweetbreads with benton’s bacon, creamy ramp dressing and parsley leaves was heavy but not exceptionally delicous. It had the lightweight, hot, fattiness of a sweetbread but I have had much better taste combinations elsewhere and this version seemed slightly bland.
The showstopper was the Foie Gras on a biscuit with maple sausage gravy!!! Woohoo! This dish was so bold, so fatty, so in-your-face and utterly delectable. Completely un-P.C., unhealthy and took comfort food to the decadent stratosphere of seared foie gras. Amazing.
If you’re up for a meaty, hip adventure ANIMAL in Los Angeles is groundbreaking if not artery clogging!
