BABBO – RICH ROMANTIC ITALIAN IS THE CAT’S MEOW

 Babbo Interior

Babbo’s Interior has a warm, classical uptown esthetic. A lovely respite just on the corner of lively Washington Square Park

Mario Batali’s legendary Babbo restaurant located on the North West corner of Washington Square park is perfect for a special meal in a romantic and mature two storied townhouse.

Batali’s cooking is always very tasty with great Italian ingredients, however my one gripe is it can be excessively oily and salty. Coming from the belief that food can taste good without those heart-stopping extras, I would love to see an evolution on this with his next restaurants or prodigy’s next move.

I have heard Babbo is “all about the pasta” so order one to share and make it a special treat. The Agnolotti with Brown Butter and Sage is a must try and its best description would be like “little fluffy delicate clouds from heaven”.

Agnolotti with Brown Butter and Sage

Agnolotti with Brown Butter and Sage was ABSOLUTELY DIVINE. Definitely a decadent treat with melt in you mouth pasta, woody sage and mushroom flavors and a light butter sauce. This is the best dish we tried.

Baby Beet Salad with Marinated Cauliflower and Blood Orange Vinaigrette

Baby Beet Salad with Marinated Cauliflower and Blood Orange Vinaigrette was refreshing and citrus and parmegiano counterbalanced nicely.

 Brussel Sprouts

Brussel Sprouts- large portioned, crisp, tasty.

“Grigliata Mista” Lamb Chop, Sweetbreads & Beef Tongue with Cipolline and Aceto

“Grigliata Mista” Lamb Chop, Sweetbreads & Beef Tongue with Cipolline and Aceto was quite heavily roasted and as most Batali restaurants – very oily. The portions are small so if you are a vegetable lover order an extra side.

Lamb Belly “alla Piastra” with Brussel Sprouts, Spiced Carrots and Apple Vinegar

Lamb Belly “alla Piastra” with Brussel Sprouts, Spiced Carrots and Apple Vinegar was very dense and rich. A little oily and rich for my liking. The gamey meat flavor was enhanced with the smoked crust and crisped up with the fresh apple.

I thought this outfit was great for a spring lunch and fun to go to an upscale restaurant with a bit of playfulness to make the experience more fun and hip.

The restaurant is great for a special meal for romance, parents visiting or taking clients you want to impress.
